Do I need to be fit?
No, anybody can train in Tae Kwon-Do. The program allows you to train as easy or hard as you want to make it. The more you train, the fitter you will get.
Is Tae Kwon-Do Dangerous?
There are elements of training that can be dangerous if taught incorrectly. By wearing protective equipment when sparring and being taught the correct moves to avoid injury, this should help ensure your safety.
What should I wear?
As you need to be able to move about freely, loose fitting clothing such as a tracksuit is ideal to get you started. When you decide to join the club, Tae Kwon-Do suits can be purchased through Miss Bruce.
Why Tae Kwon-Do?
Not only can we provide you with the aerobic-style training of a fitness class, other benefits include self-defense, confidence, flexibility, balance, discipline, co-ordination, technical expertise etc. All taught in a friendly manner.
Will participating in Tae Kwon-Do teach children to be violent?
We find the opposite to be true in actual fact. We aim for our students goals to include:
- Improving self-discipline to help them make better choices
- Developing the self-control to resolve problems
- Increasing their self-confidence
- Learn to respect one another
What equipment do I need?
When a student reaches yellow belt, sparring equipment can be purchased at trade price through the club. This consists of head guard, gloves and foot protectors. Additionally, shin guards and groin guards are also available.
What is a Grading?
A grading is an examination to determine if you have learnt and developed the required skills and techniques to progress on to the next belt. Gradings are delivered in Aberdeen every 2nd month by 6th Dan International Grading Examiner and Instructor, Mr K Murdoch.
How much does it cost?
Annual membership to the BTC costs £35 which allows a student to enter tournaments and grades and provides insurance. Class fees are £20 per month for children and £25 per month for adults (training twice per week). Discounts are available for families or if training once a week. Speak to Miss Bruce for details.
