Importance of good nutrition in sport

In order to maintain a healthy mind and body in sport, students should aim to eat a balanced diet.  A balanced diet encompasses the following:

- Eat 5 portions of fruit and vegetables daily (essential vitamins & minerals)

- Aim to eat unrefined carbohydrate with every meal (provides us with energy)

- Eat 2-3 portions of protein per day (essential for muscle repair)

- Consume 2-3 portions of dairy/calcium alternatives per day (for strong bones)

- Limit fats and sugars

- Consume some essential fats in the diet (omega 3 sources)

- Ensure you are well hydrated throughout the day, especially prior to commencing and during your Tae Kwon-Do class

- Maintain a healthy body weight - see BMI chart below

If you have any specific questions on nutrition, please ensure you seek the advice of a qualified dietitian.  Your instructor will be happy to give guidance where appropriate.
